**Egyptian Outrage Over Netanyahu’s Map: “A Trap He Must Face the Consequences Of”**

Egypt has expressed strong discontent over the map used by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his recent press conference. According to Israeli media reports, Cairo views this map as a violation of the peace agreement between the two nations, particularly objecting to the depiction of the Philadelphi Route—located on the Egyptian-Palestinian border—as a military zone, which contradicts the Camp David Accords and could potentially strain bilateral relations.

Major General Osama Mahmoud Kabeer, an Egyptian military expert and strategic advisor at the Command and Staff College, commented on the matter, stating that Netanyahu’s claims are false. He emphasized that Egypt has closed its tunnels for over eight years, and there are no open tunnels between Egypt and Israel. Kabeer explained that the Philadelphi Route, also known as the Salah al-Din Corridor, is designated as a buffer zone between Gaza and Egypt under the Camp David Accords of 1979. Additionally, the Oslo II Agreement of 1995, signed secretly between the Palestinian Authority and Israel with American-European mediation, also classified this corridor as a secure buffer.

He further noted that the 2005 agreement between Egypt and Israel allowed Egypt to deploy around 750 soldiers within its borders to maintain the security of the corridor after Israel’s disengagement from Gaza. However, after Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, it imposed full military control over the corridor. Kabeer criticized Netanyahu’s recent move as a distortion of the peace agreement, asserting that the map’s depiction of the corridor as a military zone is inaccurate.

Kabeer also refuted Netanyahu’s justification for the occupation of the corridor, which purportedly aimed at preventing weapons smuggling to Hamas and controlling potential escapes of prisoners from Gaza to Sinai and beyond. He stressed that such claims are baseless, as Egypt has not had operational tunnels for years. According to the Israeli military’s Channel 12, the discovered tunnel openings along the Philadelphi Route have not been in use for over seven years, corroborating Egypt’s stance.

In conclusion, Kabeer argued that Netanyahu’s recent statements were a self-made trap that he must now face the repercussions of.
