**Blinken Promises ‘Necessary Actions’ After American Woman Killed in West Bank**
The United Nations confirmed that American-Turkish activist Aisha Noor Ezgi Iggy was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his regret on Friday over the death of the American citizen in the occupied West Bank, pledging to “take necessary actions.”
Speaking to the press while in the Dominican Republic, Blinken said, “We regret this tragic loss,” and extended “our deepest condolences” to the family of Aisha Noor Ezgi Iggy, a dual American-Turkish citizen.
When asked if the U.S. would take action against Israel, Blinken responded, “First and foremost, let us determine exactly what happened, and we will draw conclusions and results from that.” He added, “Once we have more information, we will share it and make it available, and we will take necessary actions accordingly.”
Blinken emphasized, “There is no higher priority for me than the safety and protection of American citizens wherever they may be.”
Palestinian officials reported that Iggy was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers during a protest against Israeli settlements in the town of Beita in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military confirmed that it was investigating the matter, acknowledging that its forces had opened fire, justifying their actions by claiming they were responding to “violent activity.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory confirmed on Friday that Israeli forces had shot and killed the American activist during a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank.
The office’s statement read, “On September 6, Israeli security forces shot and killed a 26-year-old American activist in the town of Beita in Nablus during a peaceful protest against settlements.”
The Israeli army admitted to opening fire during the demonstration, as Washington condemned the “tragic” death, and Turkey denounced what it called a “murder” by “occupation soldiers.”
Turkey also confirmed that Aisha Noor Ezgi Iggy was killed by Israeli soldiers, strongly condemning her “killing.” Iggy, who was in her mid-twenties, was participating in a weekly protest against Israeli settlement activity near the town of Beita, close to Nablus.
