**UN Hosts Tripoli Talks to Resolve Central Bank Crisis**

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced that it hosted talks in Tripoli on Monday to address the crisis at the Central Bank of Libya, which has been unable to conduct transactions for over a week.

Representatives from the Libyan House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and the Presidential Council participated in the meeting.

According to a statement from the mission, discussions continued from morning until late at night. The mission added that participants reached “significant understandings on ways to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank and restore the trust of Libyans and international partners in this vital institution.”

The statement further noted, “At the end of the session, representatives from the House of Representatives and the High Council of State agreed to submit their consensus to the councils for consultation, with the goal of finalizing the agreement on the following day.”

This comes amid a standoff between rival political factions over control of the Central Bank and oil revenues.

The struggle for control of the Central Bank has led to a halt in oil production in Libya and threatens to trigger the worst crisis in years for the long-divided country, which has been plagued by competing factions from the east and west.

The confrontation began when the Government of National Unity, led by Abdulhamid Dbeibah, moved this month to replace the long-serving Governor Saddek El-Kaber with a rival board, prompting authorities in the east of the country to halt oil production entirely.

The eastern authorities, which control the oil fields representing nearly all of Libya’s production, are demanding that Dbeibah’s government retract the replacement of the Central Bank governor, a key position in Libya.
