### Are Tech Companies Conspiring Against Trump? Facebook Admits Mistake

**Google Clarifies Absence of Trump Assassination Attempt in Search Results**

Facebook has admitted to mistakenly removing the famous image of former President Donald Trump raising his fist after the assassination attempt that occurred on July 13 in Pennsylvania.

The post, shared by a user named End Wokeness on Mark Zuckerberg’s social media platform, depicted the Republican presidential candidate raising his fist defiantly while blood dripped down his face. It was flagged as misinformation and the user was threatened with removal from the platform.

However, Danny Lever, a spokesperson for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, acknowledged on Monday that the tech giant made a “mistake.” Lever responded on X to conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s criticism of Facebook for not allowing users to share the image, saying, “Yes, it was a mistake.” He added, “The fact-checking was initially applied to a modified image showing Secret Service agents smiling, and in some cases, our systems incorrectly applied this fact-checking to the real image.” Lever stated that “this has been corrected, and we apologize for the error.”

The Meta spokesperson’s clarification did not sit well with X users, including one who remarked, “It’s funny how ‘mistakes’ only ever go one way. Just a coincidence, I guess.” Another X user commented, “No one believes you.”

Meta has faced criticism from Trump supporters after its AI chatbot, Meta AI, labeled the assassination attempt as “fictional” when asked for details about the tragic event. X users sympathetic to Trump shared screenshots of Meta AI’s responses regarding the assassination attempt.

In one instance, the bot got the date of the event wrong. In another, it provided a correct answer but gave a brief response, and when discussing Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, it seemed as if the tech giant was biased towards Democrats.

The spokesperson responded, “We know people have seen incomplete, inconsistent, or outdated information on this topic. We are implementing fixes to provide more up-to-date responses, though people may continue to see inaccurate responses on this issue.”

Google also faced severe criticism after users pointed out that its search engine’s autocomplete function failed to generate results for the assassination attempt when queried. A Google spokesperson stated that “no manual action was taken regarding these predictions,” and that its systems include “safeguards” against autocomplete predictions “related to political violence.”

The spokesperson said, “We are working on improvements to ensure our systems are updated further. Autocomplete is a tool to help people save time, and they can still search for anything they want.”

In the wake of this horrific act, people turned to Google for high-quality information, and we connected them with useful results, and we will continue to do so.

Following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, major tech companies barred Trump from their platforms. The bans have since been lifted.

In the lead-up to the 2020 election, X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook restricted Washington Post reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop.
